How can I remove “wet dog” smell from washed dishes

I love to wash the dishes. But, I hate the smell of wet dog that comes from my clean dishes. How do I get rid of this rotten egg-like odor? Here are a few tips and tricks to help you get rid of that “wet dog” smell in your dishwasher:

The smell is from bacteria and mold that grow in the water supply of the dishwasher.

You don't need to worry about it being dangerous or harmful to your health or family.

First, place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with white vinegar on the top rack of your dishwasher.

If you want to remove the smell of wet dog from your dishes, first place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with white vinegar on the top rack of your dishwasher. Vinegar is a natural deodorizer and disinfectant, as well as a good mold remover, grease remover, soap substitute and fabric softener. The acetic acid in vinegar will break down odors while leaving behind its own fresh scent. After running through the cycle once or twice more using just hot water (no soap), you should notice that your dishwasher smells much fresher overall!

Use citric acid to clean your dishwasher.

Citric acid is a natural, non-toxic substance that can be used to clean your dishwasher. It's a natural preservative and it can even kill germs and bacteria.

Citric acid is also an excellent degreaser.

It has many other uses as well: it can be used as a sanitizer for food contact surfaces, and also to clean your microwave oven (instead of using chemicals).

Remove standing water from the bottom of your dishwasher.

  • Remove the bottom rack from your dishwasher and soak it in a sink full of hot, soapy water for about 20 minutes to help draw out moisture.
  • Use a towel to soak up even more standing water from inside your dishwasher's tub (which you should probably do before throwing away that kitchen towel).
  • If there is still some residual "wet dog" smell after all your efforts, use a vacuum cleaner hose to suck out excess water from the bottom of the dishwasher; place paper towels over any openings or holes on sides of tub so they don't get clogged by suctioning dirt behind them

Clean up spills from the door seal and bottom of the dishwasher.

You can remove old food and grease from the door seal of your dishwasher. You should also clean up spills from the bottom of the dishwasher with a sponge or paper towel.

If you want to clean out all of those hard-to-reach places in your dishwasher, use a toothbrush to clean its holes.

Run an empty load with hot water and add Washing Soda to help clean your dishwasher.

An empty load with hot water is the best way to clean your dishwasher. This will remove any built-up soap scum or stains that may be causing the odor. If you're worried about wasting water, you can also run an empty load with white vinegar and baking soda instead.

You can buy washing soda at the grocery store alongside other laundry detergent products or online from Amazon or other retailers. It's usually used for cleaning clothes but it's also effective at removing odors from dishes in your dishwasher! As an added bonus, this product is much cheaper than buying a specialized cleaner for your appliance.

These tips will help you get rid of that wet dog smell in your clean dishes.

The first tip to getting rid of the wet dog smell in your dishwasher is to clean it. The second tip is to clean it again. Seriously, though! This really works!

The first step in cleaning your dishwasher is to make sure there are no standing pools of water on the bottom of the dishwasher or anywhere else inside of it. These pools can create a breeding ground for germs and bacteria, which will lead to mold growth and thus an even worse smell than before! To make sure this doesn't happen, open up your dishwasher after each use and wipe down all surfaces with a damp cloth or paper towel until they're completely dry—especially around areas where water tends to pool like at the bottom or around where dishes enter from above (sometimes called "drain holes").

Dishwashers are great at cleaning dishes, and they’re even better when you know how to get rid of that wet dog smell. The best way to do this is by using vinegar or citric acid in the dishwasher, along with some preventative maintenance steps like running an empty load with hot water before each use. If you follow these tips, your dishes will always be fresh and clean!
